Five decades ago, Lord Glenconner had an ambitious dream: to create a private island sanctuary for those who were tired of the usual holiday destinations. Mustique now has 74 wonderful villas available to rent, 9 pristine individual beaches, the Cotton House boutique hotel, the Firefly, world renowned Basil's Beach Bar, not to mention a health Spa, Scuba-diving facility, Equestrian centre and thriving Tennis club.

The 74 rental properties make up the most varied imaginative and impressive collection of luxury villas in the world. All have extraordinary views and come with a dedicated staff (including a cook, maid and gardener), transportation, at least one swimming pool, internet access, TVs and other modern conveniences. Some have private spas, screening rooms and tennis courts. One even has a golf course.

When choosing, the first consideration is size (villas range in size from two to nine bedrooms). There is the location. It’s not a large island and all the villas are minutes away from the beaches, restaurants and spa, but some sit on hilltops with 360 degree gaze-all-day views, while others perch on cliffs or on beaches just steps from the sand.

Hummingbird (7 Bedrooms)
Hummingbird is a spectacular contemporary villa. Located on a hillside slope of 8 acres, it affords privacy and comfort with amazing views and dramatic sunsets. The open-air floor plan on three levels ensures guests will enjoy privacy away from spacious areas devoted to dining, swimming in the 20 meter travertine pool, or socializing in the ample seating throughout.

The well conceived master bedroom suite boasts a spa-like rock plunge pool, while the media room, games arcade and fitness room will surely be enjoyed by the active set. This sophisticated residence is designed for entertaining with a poolside dining gazebo for up to 26 persons, ideal for the legendary island dinner parties.

All bedrooms are air-conditioned, with six located in the main residence. The seventh is a lovely separate guest cottage in a dramatic setting reached by a wooden walkway with its own features such as a lap pool, terrace and outdoor shower.

Jacaranda (4 Bedrooms)
The re-design and renovation of Jacaranda combined with its outstanding location, makes this villa one of the most sought after on the island. The enhanced interiors have been decorated and furnished to the highest level but retaining the unique Caribbean style of luxury island living.

Three guest cottages are spaced separately in the lush tropical gardens that lead to the beautifully unspoilt beach at L’Ansecoy Bay. A central swimming pool, surrounded by a lovely sun terrace for relaxing and sunbathing also offers a superb venue for al fresco dining.

The villa is perfect for families with children (smaller children would require a nanny) and also couples sharing with its thoughtfully spaced cottages for added privacy.

Maria Adele House (5 Bedrooms)
A dramatic redesign of a villa, the newly created Asian inspired residence is a transformation to a higher level of sophistication to please discerning guests. The lovely views of the Caribbean Sea and horse pasture below are complimented by three levels devoted to entertaining, dining, sleeping or relaxing by the infinity-edge pool, gazebo and lounge area.

An open-air living, dining and media room comprise the main level, as does the master bedroom with spacious bathroom. Stylish furnishings and fabrics throughout create both a dramatic ambience, yet provide a Zen-like quality. All bedrooms are air-conditioned with private terraces and ample dressing/bathing areas.

Perched proudly in the Endeavour Hills, the villa offers three distinctive, equally delightful bedroom suites and a gingerbread dining gazebo with stunning views, all cooled by the prevailing easterly trade winds. Yellowbird`s talented staff make guests feel at home with a friendly attitude.
