Blaauwbosch is a discrete collection of thatch roofs in a crisp unspoiled landscape. Set in the heart of the Malaria free foothills of the Winterhoek mountain range in the Karoo, the lodge is newly established but is mindful of the sensitivity of its location. The reserve offers a unique and private experience where guests can relax in comfort yet it is only 110kms from Port Elizabeth.
Blaauwbosch comprises of six luxurious thatched chalets accommodating a maximum of only 14 guests at any one time. The suites are spacious and designed to create a private sanctuary for guests. The swimming pool is set under the cooling shade of thorn trees where guests can relax from the heat of the day.
Game drives happen morning and evening and offer a wide variety of game including the ‘Big 5’, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, antelope and abundant birdlife. A Walk and Stalk Safari is also on offer and involves shadowing the fastest of all hunters, the Cheetah. Places of interest to visit in the area include Addo Elephant National Park, Historic town of Graff-Reinet, Valley of Desolation, Nieuw Bethesda and it’s famous Owl House.
This is real food country. The emphasis of the menu is on fresh contemporary flavours with a nod to universally appealing dishes. Guests are encouraged to venture beyond their familiar repertoire of tastes and match food with a fine selection of South African wines.
