Curtain Bluff

Those in the know call Curtain Bluff a tropical paradise and upon visiting it is a claim hard to dispute. Run by former pilot Howard W. Hulford for the past 41 years, Curtain Bluff exudes care and planning with an understated elegance in an almost perfect setting. Hulford spotted this promontory overlooking two beautiful white sand beaches on either side (one with surf and one without) and chose it for his 12-acre resort. It's a place you would like to visit time and time again, which is what most people do - repeat business stands at 65%.

The simple, yet tropical-perfect dining spot is located in a re-creation of an old stone sugar mill-style building with a thatched roof. Chef Ruedi Portmann serves up delectable meals, making sure you see the wine cellar where 10,000 bottles are on offer.

The rooms are memorable, not only for what's inside, but also for their spectacular views overlooking the sea below the bluff. Inside, the rooms have a casually decorated look with colourful fabrics, bathrooms (outfitted with rum near the tub) and sitting areas.

Though peaceful and quiet, there is entertainment nightly: dance combos, steel band and calypso music. Guests still dress for dinner (although ties and jackets are optional).

The hotel is renowned for its five star tennis facilities. Every May seesthe Antigua Tennis Week move in at the resort, a program begun by Hulford in 1975 to send island kids to tennis camp. Tennis enthusiasts and former pros descend onto the four championship courts for competitions and masterclasses.

Curtain Bluff also offers an array of luxurious spa treatments to relax and rejuvenate the body and mind. Choose from a large selection of treatments including Swedish massage, reiki and ancient hot stone massage. Also, take advantage of the State of the art fitness center featuring Yoga, Pilates, water aerobics and aerobics classes.

18 Deluxe Rooms
Each of which are 24ft x 15ft, have a king size bed and are located on the beach in a two story building. The terrace is 15ft x 8ft and provides a spectacular view of the ocean.
Step from the terrace of a beach level Deluxe Room on to golden sand. A border of coconut palms provides shade for quiet reading and relaxation, or lounge by the ocean and enjoy the sun and warming breezes.
Other guest amenities include: meals from 7:30 am; complimentary room service for all bar drinks from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; gift shop and beauty salon; massage arranged through the concierge.

40 Junior Suites
Located in two-story buildings situated on the beach, boasting breathtaking views. The bedroom with king size bed, extends to a sunken living room with a mini library of vacation reading.
The overall size of the Junior Suite is 48ft x 17ft. Island decor enhances the Suite´s tropical atmosphere. Large ceiling fans and cooling Caribbean breezes keep rooms at a perfect temperature throughout the season.

Executive Deluxe Suites
The Executive Deluxe room on the bluff is 37ft x 23ft with a ceiling 10ft high and offers a king size bed, large terrace and marble bathroom. For families requiring two bedrooms, the Executive Deluxe room can be attached to an Executive Suite.
The terrace affords a sweeping view of the surf beach and ocean. The bi-level Executive Suite offers a living room 41ft x 23ft with a soaring 20ft ceiling plus a terrace 16ft wide. From a private garden patio, stairs lead to the upstairs dining terrace and a bedroom and bathroom.

Grace & Morris Bay Suites
On the third floor of the new building, are the Grace Bay and Morris Bay Suites, both 54ft x 36ft, lavish in decor and rich in foliage. Generously proportioned and the ultimate in luxury, the bedroom and separate living room look out on a large inviting terrace with jacuzzi and glamorous outdoor furniture. The large bathroom is crafted in granite and marble.
