The light at the end of the tunnel can finally be seen. As we start to emerge from the recession, the travel industry is beginning to feel optimistic about the future as it recovers from the battering it has taken in recent years.
In an attempt to reverse the downturn in tourism and to boast ailing economies, many countries are realising the importance of tourism. Asian nations especially are showing commitment by putting in place ambitious long term plans, investing in the future. This can be seen to be working with countries such as Thailand, Sri Lanka and Indonesia reporting an increase in visitors.
At the recent Berlin Fair, Secretary General Taleb Rifai of the UN World Tourism Organisation said that “the world’s new generation of holidaymakers were better educated and more concerning”. More people are spreading their wings and visiting far flung places they previously would not have travelled to. This can be seen with an increase in bookings of adventure trips and luxury holidays.
Tourism is an area which needs to be built on and continually improved and should not be taken for granted.
