Disabled Travellers

Travelling for anyone is an arduous task but for the disabled or passengers with reduced mobility the whole process of travelling through an airport and taking a flight can be daunting.
In 2008 new European laws were implemented which made it the responsibility of the airports to ensure that disabled and reduced mobility passengers were adequately catered for and their needs addressed offering assistance from check-in through to the passenger boarding the plane.
Whether the passengers are going on luxury holidays or travelling on a budget airline or they are able bodied or disabled everyone in their own right should receive equal treatment.
The CAA has called for travel companies to improve information they pass onto to passengers in relation to what assistance they are entitled to at the airport. Adequate signage and guidance should be made available and displayed at the airport. The key, however, is for greater awareness among staff and improved training so they are enabling to assist passengers with a range of disabilities allowing all travellers to enjoy their holiday from beginning to end.
