Male International Airport (MIA), on the luxury holidays destination of the Maldives, has recently released new and exciting plans for the expansion of its existing facilities and runway.
Malaysian company MAHB has revealed that they have won the contract to extend the current airport located on the island of HuHule. The company stated that “With its tourism potential and expansion growth in passenger movement, the MIA is an extremely profitable airport with a high revenue model”.
Male Airport is the first port of call for travellers to this beautiful island paradise. With its stunning beaches, great diving facilities, perfect climate and high quality resorts, such as Soneva Fushi, the Maldives is fast becoming a tourist hot spot. It is unique in that it is a sea plane port. As the islands tourism flourishes there is huge potential for the island to increase its tourist revenue. The airport needs to be updated as it expands to keep up with increased passenger traffic.
