One of the questions we often get asked is “When is the best time to take a luxury holiday to Maldives?” so we’ve put together this guide to help you work out when you’d like to go.
The most important thing to understand about the Maldivian climate is that, as it is a tropical climate, it doesn’t have the spring, summer, autumn or winter climate that those of us further north are used to. Instead, there is the dry season and the monsoon season.
Before the word “monsoon” has you cancelling your holiday, you should understand that it’s not nearly as bad as it sounds. Because the Maldives are small enough not to affect weather patterns much and are far enough away from any major landmasses to only be on the fringes of their weather system, monsoon season in the Maldives consists of occasional downpours that can be gone in a matter of minutes. There are no mountain ranges for them to get trapped against and the average eight hours of sunshine a day continues right through the monsoon season.
What this means is that whilst the rainy season is technically between June and August, you’ll find that there is still plenty of opportunity to enjoy a sunny Maldivian holiday, even if the rainfall does increase a bit.
Besides, if you’re going to make use of the incredible diving opportunities the Maldives offer, why would you care what was happening on the surface?
