You may be surprised to know that sports are also an integral part of the Singaporean lifestyle, especially on weekends. Whether it´s diving, dirt biking, water-skiing and rock climbing, you’ll see throngs of Singaporeans and expatriates working up a sweat at the beaches, parks and other activity centres.
This active lifestyle is complemented by another popular Singaporean pastime - spectator sport. From the local soccer league and dragon boat races to international events like the Caltex Masters Singapore golf tournament and the Singapore Sevens rugby tournament, Singapore is the ideal venue to catch some exciting sporting action.

Horse Racing
Horse racing in Singapore has had a long and illustrious history, beginning in 1842 with the formation of the Singapore Sporting Club by a group of racing enthusiasts.
During its varied and colourful past, the racecourse grounds had been used for an array of activities ranging from polo matches to the landing of the first aircraft in Singapore. In 1924, the Singapore Sporting Club changed its name to Singapore Turf Club, to better reflect its role.
Since then, the Club has moved to its current premises in Kranji, with the SGD 3 million Singapore Airlines International Cup being included in the prestigious World Series Racing Championship.

Cycling
Cycling is a favourite pastime of many Singaporeans due to the many bike-friendly roads and trails available. Trails like the ones in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and the Clementi off-road cycling track allow mountain bikers to scratch that off-road itch.

Golf
Tee off, anyone? With perfect weather nearly all year round, Singapore is the ideal destination for golf. Organisers hold international golf tournaments here, such as the Caltex Singapore Masters. With superb golfing facilities and an extensive selection of clubs - some of which have signature courses of their own - you´ll be spoiled for choice on our beautiful fairways. You need not worry about your handicap either, as most courses have multiple tee off positions. You can play golf at almost anytime of the day – and even at night! - as some courses are open for play in the evenings. This means you can enjoy the courses at a wide variety of clubs, regardless of your skill level.
