Stroll up to Makanyane’s beautiful main lodge, situated on 1800 hectares of private ground within the reserve, and discover that its open-air decks and swimming pool hang dramatically over a ravine and waterhole. Wander into the spacious lounge and gracious dining room, and you will be greeted by large open fireplaces and a welcoming bar. The main lodge also offers a library and fully equipped gym, as well as an extensive wine cellar.
Venture upstairs to encounter a further lounge and viewing deck, offering panoramic views of the breathtaking landscape.
Makanyane’s eight stunning suites lie hidden in lush riverside forest, offering spectacular views over the tranquil Marico River. The romantic glass-walled bedroom suites allow uninterrupted views of the surrounding bush and its wildlife. The open-fronted lounge with its private sundeck is the perfect place to enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush.
The spectacular bathrooms, with indoor and secluded outdoor showers, have wide folding doors, which allow the ambience of the bush to join you in the free-standing bathtub.
Makanyane’s dedicated professional rangers will guide you on dawn and dusk excursions into the wild. Travel through the bush in open vehicles specifically designed for comfort and safety. Alternatively, enjoy the thrill of walking through this untamed environment.
Refreshed and invigorated after the evening game drive, dinner awaits in the main lodge. Exquisite meals, accompanied by excellent wines, are prepared by five star chefs, served in the dining room or outdoors under the stars.
Those reluctant to surrender to the luxury of their suite can continue the African experience by sleeping out under a velvet canopy pierced by uncountable stars.

A stroll along the shady path winding through the riverine forest will bring you to your romantic and secluded suite. As in the main lodge, rich African textures abound, walls of natural rock and dried tree trunks merge with rough teak doors and contrast with the overhanging thatch. The glass walled bedroom suites allow uninterrupted views of the river and the surrounding bush.
The open-fronted lounge with its private sundeck is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush. The call of the fish eagle echoes down the river as elephants, escaping the heat of the day, plunge into the deep water and disturb the sleeping hippo.
The spectacular bathrooms have under-floor heating as well as indoor and outdoor showers. The wide, folding doors can be opened to allow the sounds and scents of the surrounding bush to join you in the luxurious freestanding bathtub. The understated luxury of your suite flawlessly compliments your untamed surroundings.
The suites have fireplaces, overhead fans and are fully air-conditioned and heated. The rooms also have a telephone, hot beverage making facilities, mini safe and a bar fridge. Bathrobes, hairdryers, insect repellent, body and sun lotion, soap as well as shampoo and conditioner are all provided
